Humble Plastic-Free Deodorant
A plastic free deodorant that works like the stick you already know. Humble's 2.65 oz bar comes in a paperboard push-up tube: twist nothing, just press the bottom to raise the bar, swipe, and go. It is aluminum-free, so it controls odor rather than plugging sweat glands, and it is made in small batches in Taos, New Mexico with no alcohol, parabens, dyes, or synthetic fragrance.
Pick from five essential-oil scents, or the Simply Unscented formula, which is vegan and baking-soda-free for underarms that react to most natural deodorants. If someone in your house has been putting off the switch from antiperspirant because "natural deodorant doesn't work," this is a good one to hand them. Coming off aluminum? Read the transition notes below.
- Plastic-free paperboard push-up tube, made from 75% post-consumer recycled paper with FSC-certified materials
- Aluminum free deodorant: no aluminum salts, no antiperspirant action, your body still sweats normally
- Nothing bad: no alcohol, parabens, dyes, or artificial fragrance in any scent
- Six options, from light citrus to bold woods, plus a true unscented
- Simply Unscented is vegan and baking-soda-free, using magnesium hydroxide to neutralize odor instead
- Cruelty-free and made in the USA (Taos, New Mexico)
- 2.65 oz bar, the same size as a standard drugstore stick
Humble rates each scent 1 to 5 for strength. All are gender-neutral in practice; the "masculine" tags are Humble's own labels for the heavier wood scents, and plenty of women wear them.
- Bergamot & Ginger (2/5, light): bright citrus with warm spice and a little woody depth. The easiest everyday pick.
- Rosemary & Mint (3/5, balanced): fresh green herbs and cool mint with a clean finish. Rosemary, peppermint, spearmint, marjoram, and lavender oils.
- Black Spruce (4/5, full): forest air with resinous depth and subtle warmth. Black spruce oil with labdanum and jasmine extracts.
- Palo Santo & Frankincense (5/5, bold): soft wood, gentle smoke, dry resin, and a touch of natural sweetness from tonka bean.
- Rockrose & Cedar (5/5, bold): the heaviest of the line. Cedarwood, sandalwood, patchouli, vetiver, and rockrose, warmed up with cardamom, clove, and black pepper.
- Simply Unscented (1/5): no scent added at all. The pick for sensitive skin, fragrance-free households, or anyone who wears perfume and doesn't want competition.
Push up from the bottom of the tube to raise the bar a little at a time. Apply 2 to 3 swipes to clean, dry underarms and rub in any excess. Don't apply to broken skin. If you have reactive skin, patch test on the inner arm first. The bar is firm in cool weather; hold it against your skin for a second to soften it before swiping.
Original scents (Bergamot & Ginger, Rosemary & Mint, Black Spruce, Palo Santo & Frankincense, Rockrose & Cedar):
- Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride (MCT oil), the coconut-derived base that carries everything else
- Non-GMO corn starch to absorb moisture
- Sodium bicarbonate (baking soda) to neutralize odor
- Beeswax for structure and glide
- Essential oils and extracts specific to each scent, plus the naturally occurring components of those oils (limonene, linalool, citral, geraniol)
Simply Unscented: Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride (MCT oil), non-GMO corn starch, magnesium hydroxide, candelilla wax. That's the whole list.
Sensitivity notes: The Original scents contain baking soda and beeswax. Baking soda is the most common irritant in natural deodorant; if you've had redness or itching from other natural sticks, go with Simply Unscented. The Original scents are not vegan because of the beeswax. Simply Unscented is vegan.
- Aluminum-free, all scents
- Cruelty-free, all scents
- Vegan: Simply Unscented only
- Baking-soda-free: Simply Unscented only
- No alcohol, parabens, dyes, or artificial fragrance, all scents
- Made in the USA: Taos, New Mexico
Net weight 2.65 oz (75 g). Standard stick-deodorant size; fits a toiletry bag and passes as a solid through airport security.
The tube is paperboard with a paperboard push-up base and cap, no plastic parts. It is made from 75% post-consumer recycled paper and FSC-certified materials. ZeroWasteOutlet ships in paper or cardboard mailers with recycled paper void fill, never plastic.
- Tube: use the bar down to the last bit, then scrape out any residue. Because of the oil and wax left behind, Humble doesn't recommend composting the tube. Recycle it with paper if your local facility accepts lightly soiled paperboard; otherwise it goes in the trash, where it breaks down far faster than a plastic stick.
- Shipping materials: paper, cardboard, and paper tape can be reused, recycled, or composted per your local guidelines.
If you're coming off an aluminum-based antiperspirant, give it two to three weeks. Residue from the old product clears from your skin, and the bacterial balance under your arms resets after years of being suppressed. You may notice more odor than usual during that stretch. It's normal and temporary. The Underarm Detox Bar uses activated charcoal and clay to speed up the residue part; use it daily for the first week or two.
